And what can you expect exactly? Surprisingly, a lot, and almost immediately, too. New World doesn't waste time explaining things, and as I washed up on the black shores of Aeternum, I was quickly given a sword, a tutorial, and the metaphorical keys to the kingdom, following a few starter quests. New World has packed a lot of content into its dark fantasy world and it wants you to get involved as quickly as possible.
What is great is that New World enables you to respec your allocated skills until level 25, so there's room to experiment with different builds. These aforementioned skills improve your core attributes such as your maximum health and your proficiency with magic, ranged, and melee weapons. In addition to these skill points, you'll also receive weapon mastery points for frequent use with different weapons and these can be used to unlock specific passive and active abilities through two separate skill trees. One passive ability for the sword and shield, for example, enables you to move 33% faster whilst blocking and one active ability enables you to perform a leaping strike, dealing out 125% damage.
Another thing was the classless customisation system, in which you spend a variety of points to grow yourself in a variety of ways. There are level-up points you put into attributes broadly linked with playstyles (intelligence for magic, strength for melee and so on); there are weapon skill trees you explore with points earned for using those weapons; there's a regional kind of experience to spend on things like exploration skills; and I think there are crafting skill points too.
While New World's main attractions may lie in PVP and PVE modes, any good MMORPG has to make players feel like their part of the world around them as well. As I approached the first settlement, Windsward City, a quaint early game town, I was introduced to the game's intricate crafting systems. Crafting weapons, for example, is not as cut and dry as it is in other MMORPGs. For example, you can follow a recipe to craft a basic sword, but New World allows the player to swap out the ingredients for different, stronger ones that will increase the quality of the item. It will also increase the requirements to equip each weapon, but this freedom allows the players to dial in on the desired effects of their weapon.
New World will also feature a 50v50 war mode to allow for epic battles. Amazon has taken precautions to ensure that as many players as possible can share a single world together and have assured gamers that their servers will accommodate over 1000 players at a time.
You will have the opportunity to join one of three factions and engage in PvP battles against other battles. Doing so will grant you experience and allow you to level up your character. Conversely, losing will incur penalties upon you including decreased weapon durability.
